Dancing for Health
June 24, 2010

Kishwaukee Community Hospital is encouraging individuals and families to participate in the “Let’s Dance” Big Band Weekend July 16-18 at NIU by funding $10 per person or family scholarships.

“Ballroom dancing is great exercise and makes you feel good,” said Sharon Emanuelson, KishHealth System Marketing and Public Relations Director. “ I use the example of my mother who took up ballroom dancing  when she was 80 years old. She lost weight, her bad knee felt better and her outlook on life became so much more positive because dancing gave her a new social network.

“Kish Hospital is looking for opportunities to give more people access to activities that improve health. The “Let’s Dance” weekend was a good fit to reach both individuals and families, who might not otherwise attend this event,” she said.

A special “Family Time” Dance Saturday, July 17, 2-4 p.m. , includes easy dance lesson, live music, free babysitting, free parking. Regular cost is $15 a family. “Let’s Dance” is being held  in the Duke Ellington Ballroom, NIU Holmes Student Center.

Any DeKalb County resident interested in a scholarship should complete the registration form found at www.justmakeithappen-dekalb.com The $10 per person scholarship also applies to the other “Let’s Dance” events, but only one scholarship will be given per person and family for the weekend.
